Journey Three / Chapter 1

Queensland

September 2018

Travels along a coast of sunny Queensland, starting in Gold Coast & Brisbane, towards tropical north: City of Cairns, the Daintree Rainforest, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Another journey starts. It was my dream to get to Australia and New Zealand on my last 2 journeys, which unfortunately never happened. So this time I decided to do it other way around. Start in Australia and New Zealand, and work our way home in one year. We land at sunny Gold Coast, a busting metropolis and surfing capital just south of Brisbane. In Brisbane we rent a car for a month and start our month-long roadtrip through Australia, of which first leg will take us up north through the state of Queensland mostly along the Bruce Highway.

As we leave Brisbane and Sunshine Coast we also leave heavy development, and small towns and cities change for more rular settings and back. One unplanned half-day long detour inland gives us a hint of how outback is going to look when we get there later, and we are back on coast.

Along the journey we pass great plains with cattle stations, but also mango countries and massive sugar cane countries. As we get to tropical north this is yet replaced by banana countries, saltwater croc countries and Cassowary land. Ultimately we get explore the Daintreee Rainforest full of amazing flora and fauna, and the famous Great Barrier Reef. What a start!
