Journey One / Chapter 18

West Lake and Yellow Mountains

February 2016

Beautiful West Lake in Hangzhou with many Pagodas, Temples and Shrines, and nearby Yellow Mountains, the Huangshan, with some of the most stunning views in the World. All in the winter's beauty.

West Lake, known as Xi Hu in Chinese, while largery unknown to outsiders is one of the most favourite tourist spot for local chinese population. And rightly so - it is magnificent freshwater lake with numerous temples, pagodas, gardens, and artificial islands within it. The Lake has influenced poets and painters throughout Chinese history for its natural beauty and historic relics, and it has also been among the most important sources of inspiration for Chinese garden designers.

Yellow Mountains, known as HuangShan is a mountain range in southern Anhui province in eastern China, not very far from the West Lake. The area is well known for its scenery, sunsets, peculiarly-shaped granite peaks, Huangshan Pine trees, hot springs, winter snow, and views of the clouds from above. Just as the West Lake, Huangshan is a frequent subject of traditional Chinese paintings and literature.

Let me take you through these beautiful landscapes that inspired artists for centuries in the middle of the winter, which ads special calmness and serenity to these marvellous places.
